What Are Your Priorities in 2023?
$&*# goals. What are your priorities?
So you have goals. You have dreams, but are they your priority?
Goals can be put aside. Goals can be procrastinated on.
But a priority is something you get done before anything else.
What you do says what is most important to you.
As Gandhi said, “Action expresses priorities.”
You wake up and what’s the first thing you do?
What ever that thing is, you have made it your priority.
If educating yourself is your priority, start the day reading a new book.
If getting in better shape is your priority, then start the day exercising.
If making money is your priority, then get to work.
Don’t stress about it if your priorities change. Sometimes it will be necessary.
Life happens, but remember that what you prioritize will set the path for your future.
Your priorities set your destiny.
If you haven’t achieved what you want, it’s because you didn’t prioritize what you want.
My priorities have shifted over the years.
When I prioritized education, I read first thing every morning and I read a new book every two weeks for three years.
When I prioritized writing a feature length movie script, I worked on writing first thing every morning and in a little over a year I finally finished writing my first feature script.
Now my priority has shifted to making money. I’ve never worried about money. I made enough, but now what used to be enough is not enough anymore.
I prioritized other things in the past: supporting the community and doing personal projects. I loved doing that but it was at the expense of my time and my wallet.
This year though I made a promise to myself. I promised myself not to do any video or film work that doesn’t make me money. That includes the personal projects, the short films, and artistic videos that I want to do.
My priority now is making a good living and getting myself into a secure and strong financial position.
For one, as I get older I want to have more financial freedom.
And two, financial security is now a necessity.
You should think about making it your priority too if you aren’t already thinking about it.
I believe we’re all feeling the crunch of economics and inflation and I don’t think it’s going to get better anytime soon. More likely it’s going to get worse.
I like to be positive and optimistic, but sometimes you need to be realistic.
So this year the priority is making money. By making it my priority, I’m already busy with work this year. Usually January and February are really quiet months for work and I might not get any jobs, but this year I’m busy and I’ve already made double the money this January than what I made last January.
With this focus, I expect I will continue to do well this year. I’ve got some exciting work prospects coming up. And once I get myself into a better financial position, then I will start doing the film and video projects that I want to do. I want to be able to pay myself and cast and crew to work on projects. There’s also the potential of grants and funding.
The reason I haven’t sent out a letter sooner this year is because I’ve been so busy with work. I thought I was going to have a lot of time to write in January and I had ideas for letters to send out right at the beginning of the year, but then the work started coming in.
Along with making money though I’m going to keep writing in my spare time. Writing is my priority #2. I just might not write as much as I’d like to and you might hear less from me this year. Unless people would like to start paying me to write (which you can do by doing a paid subscription on Substack but no pressure).
Anyways how about you? How’s 2023 going for you so far? What are your priorities this year?
